Why Not? Out of the Frying Pan & intoThe F.I.R.E.

December 28th, 2006 by C.A. Dubois

Out of the frying pan & into the F.I.R.E.

Looking back, the day that I met Colonel Galloway et all was one of the longest days ever. If you looked at the fact that I had been awake for at least 18 hours already, just finding and then spying on my daddy, then add the time frame after daddy left plus the time with David in transport, I was worn thin – or should have been.

But as I sat in that chair wondering who’d be honest first, I was wide awake and raring to go. I chalk that up to fear and adrenaline.

The Colonel asked me if I minded the others joining us, and I shrugged. Of course I minded, but I was in no position to tell this man how to handle his troops. While Doc went after the rest of the detachment, Colonel Galloway started fixing David and me plates of food that was being kept warm in the oven.

As he did such, he gave me what I call “The Commanders Spiel”. He started by asking me when I ate last. When I could not recall, he began lecturing me on how he mandated his troops take care of themselves.

“You do no good to me or this unit if you are mal-nutritioned, exhausted or injured.” He recited in what I’d later learn was his Commander’s voice. On and on he preached about how he expected me to take care of myself, be prepared and perform within the “unit” as he kept calling it.

While he spoke, the six men and one woman filtered back into the room quietly. David sat beside me either nodding to each or mouthing a hello as they sat down. In the kitchen Colonel Galloway continued his task of feeding David and I. When he walked into the now full dinning room and set both plates in front of us, he looked at me and smiled.

“Do you have any questions concerning my expectations Cylithria?”

Why Not? Honesty is Such a Lonely Word

December 28th, 2006 by C.A. Dubois

Honesty is such a lonely word

It didn’t take long for the man they called Doc to appear. During that time, not much was said. The Colonel told me as soon as Doc got there he and I would talk, and I could only nod. I was overwhelmed to say the least.

When Doc arrived, it was the Colonel who stood up and waved a hand to the now empty dinning room. “Why don’t we go sit in there Cylithria so Doc and Sutterland can have some privacy?”

At first I merely looked at the Colonel, not understanding why they’d need privacy. When it did hit me though, I stood up and smiled awkwardly. “Right,” I said as I casually stepped over David. “He doesn’t want me seeing his penis” I tried joking.

“God, why not,” David groaned suddenly. “It ought to be huge by now.”

David’s words stopped me in my tracks and I flushed a brilliant red. Colonel Galloway immediately smiled and shook his head. I stared down at David who now grinned with painful delight.

“You can thank me later” I announced before I turned and headed towards the dinning room.

Why Not? Imagine Me & You and You & Me…

December 28th, 2006 by C.A. Dubois

Imagine Me and You and You and Me

“God damn, I’m sorry” David suddenly blurted out. He was still running his hand through his hair, and twisting and turning in place as the adrenaline wore off.

I stood where I was trembling, not from fear but from the rage that still wanted to posses me. “What are you doing here – are you following me?”

My question stopped David’s odd pacing. “Following you….if anything you were following me! How did you find me?” he yelped.

I snorted at his ignorance. Lowering my rifle so I could sling it over my shoulder, I laughed at him. “Don’t flatter yourself. Following you would be like following a trail of duck shit – boring and stinky. Thanks for the fun – ciao” I called over my shoulder as I turned and began walking away.

“OH NO YOU DON’T” David cried. Grabbing my shoulder, he whipped me around to face him. “You’re going no where. You know too much.”

I blinked. How did he know what I knew, unless he’d been there the entire time? Suddenly I shivered, not liking the sound of his voice. Instantly my false bravado and mafia mentality sprang forth.

“Whadya gonna do, tell my daddy you caught me spying on him – bet ya daddy wants to know why you were spying on me AND in turn – him!” Now I smirked triumphantly.

David pulled me down to a kneeling position. As he extracted a radio device of some sort, he whispered to me. “Neither of us is telling your father we were here. This island is too big – he could hide our bodies easily – and nobody would miss you bright eyes.”
